Milkwoods Golf Day at Goodwood is one to remember!

Date of article: 02 October 2013

On the 27th August, keen golfers from across the care sector were gathered to celebrate this year’s CPBF Goodwood Golf Event. Back by popular demand, Milkwood Directors Janet Lloyd-Leech and Robin Cheesman were dedicated to making this year’s event one to remember.

The lure of hot bacon baps and coffee ensured that all participants arrived early at the stunning setting in Hampshire. Notorious for the challenging tees and unforgiving terrain, Goodwood’s championship course seems to provoke the competitive streak from our teams!

Defending champions were unable to attend this year, which left the title wide open to newcomers and the more optimistic ‘social golfers’! With a lack of time spent swinging the clubs, general chat over breakfast was more the fear of coming last!

Highlights throughout the day were “Nearest The Pin” won by Simon John of Handelsbanken and the overall winners Hazlewoods who also claimed ‘The Longest Drive”. Fair weather during the day meant that the bar was rather an appealing sight as the golfers wrapped up their round on the 18th.

As the sun set on the picturesque horizon, a sumptuous three course dinner was served in the private dining area of The Kennels Club. Impeccable service and delicious food ensured that the evening flowed smoothly, allowing all to relax and have a go (or five!) at “Guess How Many Milky Way Bars In The Jar ” - who knew a small chocolate fundraiser game could rile the most placid of characters into a betting frenzy; maybe a last ditch attempt at claiming a title on this momentous day was to blame!

The evening was rounded off with a speech from Robin who reminded us all why we had come together on the day; to support the CPBF and those who work tirelessly at raising funds for this worthy cause. Over £4000 was raised through the event which we hope goes some way towards helping care workers in need.
